Reducing single-use plastic

Western Australian government agencies have been directed to stop buying avoidable single-use plastic items—including plastic cups, straws, plates and cutlery.

The Premier’s instruction—issued on 12 November 2018—aims to reduce the government’s environmental footprint and create market opportunities for biodegradable and compostable alternatives to plastic.

The government is now looking at further actions to reduce single-use plastics across the Western Australian community.
